Of the 879,336 people living in South Dakota in 2020, 49.6 percent (436,388) were women and 50.4 percent (442,948) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the Rushmore State News.

Males 18 and over outnumbered females in the same age group by 12,878. In the 65 and over age range, there were 78,698 females and 68,133 males.
