Coyotes win 15 events on day two of South Dakota Challenge

The South Dakota track and field program reported on May 2 that it secured 15 event wins and achieved five new top-10 outdoor marks during the South Dakota Challenge at the Lillibridge Track Complex in Vermillion.

The meet featured standout performances from both men’s and women’s teams. Bre Dunn finished second in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a personal best of 59.33 seconds, placing her fourth on the program’s all-time list and second in the Summit League this season. Avery Winter took third in the same event, also earning a spot inside the top ten for USD. Evan Janzen ran a time of 47.13 seconds in the men’s 400 meters, moving to seventh on USD’s top-10 list and ranking second in the Summit League this spring.

Andrew Atwood recorded a time of 1:50.45 to take second place in the men’s 800 meters, which moved him up to eighth on USD’s all-time list and fifth within conference rankings. Ethan Baessler claimed victories in both the men’s 100 meters (10.35) and 200 meters (21.27), placing him among the top five athletes in those events within Summit League standings.

Other notable results included first-place finishes by Maya Tedder (women’s 100-meter hurdles), Jaden Damiano (men’s 110-meter hurdles), Berkeley Engelland (women’s 800 meters), Marleen Mülla (women’s pole vault), Bennett Schwenn (men’s long jump), Brandon Vander Sluis (men’s shot put and discus), Delaney Smith (women’s shot put), Lillian Allison (women’s discus), as well as strong relay team performances.

The Coyotes also updated their record books with new entries from Friday’s competition: Dunn now ranks fourth all-time for women’s outdoor 400-meter hurdles, Janzen is seventh for men’s outdoor 400-meters, Atwood is eighth for men’s outdoor 800-meters, Winter is ninth for women’s outdoor hurdles, while Tyler Laughlin entered tenth place for men’s shot put.
