Where:  171st Avenue

              Ten miles east of New Underwood, S.D.

When:   9:25 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2022

Driver: Male, 76, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2017 Buick Envision

NEW UNDERWOOD, S.D. –  One person died Wednesday morning in a one-vehicle crash east of New Underwood.

The name of the person involved is not yet being released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2017 Buick Envision was southbound on 171st Avenue when it crossed the center line, went into the north ditch and eventually came to rest in an adjacent field.

The 76-year-old male driver was transported to a Rapid City hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a seat belt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
