A Rapid City woman was sentenced on March 23 to two years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, according to an announcement from United States Attorney Ron Parsons.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal and local authorities to address gun violence and enforce laws prohibiting firearm possession by individuals with felony convictions.

Alice High Rock, age 33, received her sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Camela C. Theeler. In addition to the prison term, she was ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. High Rock had been indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2025 and pleaded guilty on December 8, 2025.

According to the announcement, law enforcement responded on April 9, 2025 after receiving reports that High Rock was driving while intoxicated and discharging a firearm. Officers located her at a residence where she was found with a stolen pistol. High Rock had previously been convicted of an offense punishable by more than one year in custody, making it illegal under federal law for her to possess firearms.

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and reducing violent crime through programs such as Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs). The District of South Dakota participates in PSN efforts designed “to bring together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone,” according to the release.

The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Schroeder prosecuted the case. Following sentencing, High Rock was immediately remanded into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
