U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson said on Apr. 17 that he recently met with police chiefs and sheriffs from across South Dakota to discuss public safety issues, including drug addiction and the importance of keeping dangerous substances away from children.

Johnson said law enforcement officers “are on the front lines protecting our state” and that he maintains regular contact with them to understand community needs. He highlighted ongoing efforts to support officers through legislation and noted his work to stop fentanyl trafficking into the United States.

Turning to energy policy, Johnson reported that U.S. sales of E15 fuel reached a record high in 2025, providing drivers with savings at the pump compared to E10 fuel. He said he continues “to advocate for the permanent sale of year-round E15” and recently discussed potential economic benefits for South Dakota’s corn producers during meetings with POET and Growth Energy.

On tax policy, Johnson stated that more than 53 million Americans benefited from Working Families Tax Cuts this season, resulting in larger refunds—up nearly 11% over last year. In South Dakota specifically, taxpayers are expected to see an average tax cut of $3,638 this season. Additional provisions such as No Tax on Overtime and No Tax on Tips provided significant deductions for millions of filers nationwide.

Johnson has served in Congress representing South Dakota’s at-large district since 2019 according to Wikipedia. He was born in Pierre in 1976 and currently resides in Mitchell as reported by Ballotpedia. Johnson graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree according to Ballotpedia.

Looking ahead, Johnson said he will continue working “to keep your taxes low” while advocating for policies aimed at supporting families and local communities.
