U.S. Senator Mike Rounds is seeking college students to apply for summer 2026 internships in his offices, with positions available in Washington, D.C., as well as Rapid City and Sioux Falls in South Dakota.

“Our internship program is an incredible opportunity for students to experience a deeper understanding of the political process,” said Rounds. “Interns are crucial to our office operations both in South Dakota and in D.C. The program is open to students from all areas of discipline, not just political science. I encourage college students interested in serving the state of South Dakota to apply for the upcoming summer internship.”

Interns will have responsibilities such as working with constituents and staff, improving research and writing skills, and learning about Senate office operations. Summer internships generally run from May through August but can be adjusted according to student schedules. Participants will receive a stipend, and the office works with universities so interns can obtain college credit.

Duties in the Washington, D.C., office include tracking legislation, researching bills, attending committee hearings and briefings, leading Capitol tours, answering constituent calls, sorting mail, and providing legislative support. In the South Dakota offices, interns may research constituent inquiries, participate in outreach activities, assist on special projects, sort mail, and answer phone calls. When possible, internships can be customized to match an intern’s specific interests.

Students interested in applying should visit https://www.rounds.senate.gov/internships by March 15, 2026. Additional information is available by contacting the Pierre office at 605-224-1450.

According to his official website, Mike Rounds serves as U.S. Senator for South Dakota since January 6, 2015. He represents South Dakota and holds membership on committees such as Appropriations and Armed Services. His offices are located in Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Aberdeen within South Dakota as well as one in Washington, D.C.
