A Sisseton man was sentenced on March 13 to two years and six months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as a prohibited person, according to an announcement by United States Attorney Ron Parsons.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address gun violence and enforce laws prohibiting felons from owning firearms. The sentencing took place before Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange at the U.S. District Court.
Robert Wolfe, Jr., age 45, received the prison sentence along with three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to forfeit the firearm involved and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Wolfe had been indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2025 and pleaded guilty on November 17, 2026.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, deputies from the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Wolfe’s residence in Sisseton on April 19, 2024. During the search, they found a Remington bolt-action rifle. Wolfe was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance in 2014.
The investigation involved the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Joyce prosecuted the case. Wolfe was immediately remanded into custody following sentencing.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, which brings together resources from various Department of Justice initiatives such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods. The program aims to reduce gun violence and make neighborhoods safer through coordinated law enforcement efforts.
