South Dakota women’s basketball head coach Carrie Eighmey announced on April 27 the addition of transfer forward Ava Miller, who will join the team with two years of eligibility remaining.

Miller comes to South Dakota after playing last season at North Dakota, where she started in 28 out of 31 games. She averaged 7.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, shooting 46.6 percent from the field and making free throws at a rate of 71.4 percent.

“We are excited to welcome Ava to our program!” Eighmey said. “Ava has proven her ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor and has Summit League experience! She’s a physical forward who can score in the paint and can also space the floor as a threat from the arc. She gives us a strong physical presence in the paint on defense and is also capable of helping us finish possessions with rebounds!”

Before joining North Dakota, Miller played her freshman year at USC Upstate, appearing in 30 games with 18 starts. Over her collegiate career so far, she has accumulated a total of 337 points and 318 rebounds across 61 games. Last season at North Dakota, she recorded four double-doubles and achieved career highs with 15 points against Denver and 18 rebounds against Green Bay.

Miller was also recognized as a standout athlete during her high school years at Mayo High School in Rochester, Minnesota, excelling in both basketball and volleyball while earning multiple all-conference honors. In high school basketball, she averaged more than sixteen points and eight rebounds per game.
