The South Dakota State women’s golf team held its lead on Apr. 27 after the second round of the Summit League Championship at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. The Jackrabbits finished the day with an 11-shot advantage heading into the final round.

This event is significant as South Dakota State has never won a team title at the Summit League Championships, despite having two previous individual champions. With one round remaining, both the team and individual titles are still to be decided.

Senior McKenzie Mages led individually after carding a 68 for her second round, which included eight birdies—both field bests. She now holds a three-stroke lead with an overall score of 141 (-1). Teammate Hannah Boraas shot a 70 to move into sole possession of second place, putting South Dakota State golfers in the top two spots on the leaderboard going into Tuesday’s final round.

The Jackrabbits posted a team score of 286 (+2) for round two and have a total score of 584 (+16) over two rounds. Oral Roberts matched their daily score but remains in second place with a total of 595 (+27), while Denver is third at 600 (+32). Other contributors for South Dakota State include Reese Jansa (tied for twelfth), Riko Danjo (tied for sixteenth), and Molly O’Hara (tied for twentieth).

Mages’ performance set records for both single-round stroke score and matching her school’s best to-par mark at these championships. Oral Roberts’ Jayla Kucy sits third individually, and her team has three golfers in the top ten.

The championship concludes Tuesday morning with South Dakota State paired alongside Oral Roberts and Denver as they compete for both team honors and individual medalist recognition.
