Steve Haugaard for Governor: Increase Our State’s Revenue Growth by Keeping Livestock

Earlier today, I commented on the idea that we can increase our state’s revenue growth by keeping livestock and grain processing in-state. Let me break that down.

By processing grain and livestock out of state, South Dakota is losing tens of billions of dollars in profit. Processing beef alone outside of our state has resulted in the loss of $2 billion dollars. We allow hundreds of thousands of hogs, sheep, and poultry to be exported for processing outside of South Dakota.

This issue has been ignored for far too long! Our leadership has watched this happen without aggressively paving the way to change this. I will!
