Gov. Kristi Noem, during her Thursday press conference, urged South Dakota media to provide fair coverage.
She highlighted a story of local business owners that was covered by the Washington DC Examiner, and called it an excellent piece of reporting.
According to her, the article spells out the direct impact to South Dakota families, businesses, and workers of President Biden's decision to cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline. The article, she said “goes beyond the data and the statistics to tell the personal stories behind the executive action.”
The mayor then questioned the media as to why a Washington publication was able to cover the story but none from the local media did.
“Why is that? Why is it that no South Dakota reporters cover the real-life impacts of the loss of the pipeline?” she asked.
“If I had taken an action that has ended hundreds of thousands of jobs in South Dakota with a stroke of a pen, I know for a fact all of you would cover that,” she continued. She also said that if it was Trump who did it, she was sure it would have been reported.
She called on the South Dakota media “to treat this new administration exactly the same way. Let’s make sure we hold them to the same standard.”
