South Dakota Republican lawmakers have proposed a bill that seeks to nullify President Joe Biden's executive orders.
The bill gives authority to the state's attorney to determine the constitutionality of Biden's executive orders. The attorney also has the authority to nullify the orders at the state level.
Bill drafting was partly influenced by Biden's order to end the $8 billion Keystone XL pipeline project.
Republicans have criticized Biden's executive orders with Gov. Kristi Noem expressing her disappointment.
"This pipeline is not only just creating jobs and helps us secure an affordable energy supply, it also is safer for our environment,” Noem said at a press conference, The Epoch Times reported. “History has proven over and over again that the way we are transporting our energy supply today is compromised in many ways and it would be safer through a pipeline than on trucks and trains.”
If passed, the bill will see South Dakota being exempted from the president's executive orders. The bill was sponsored by 15 Republican legislators including 2 state senators.
