Highway Patrol Recruit Graduation Friday

PIERRE, S.D. – Eight South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper recruits officially graduate this Friday, Sept. 9, during a ceremony in the State Capitol Rotunda.

Graduation ceremonies for Class 67 start at 10 a.m.  South Dakota Attorney General Mark Vargo is the keynote speaker. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the Highway Patrol’s Facebook page.

“This graduation ceremony is the culmination of a process that took about a year starting with the recruits applying to the Highway Patrol and then being accepted,” said Col. Rick Miller, superintendent of the state Highway Patrol. “They have worked hard to get here. They all have shown a great desire to serve and protect the public.”

Class 67 recruits and their duty stations are:

*** Jason Abbitt – Northern Hills B

*** Andrew Correll – Pierre

*** Vernon Gebers – Sioux Falls

*** Seth Ireland – Mitchell

*** Terrell Janis – Badlands

*** Kyle Maciejewski – Rapid City B

*** Jordan Rentschler – Sioux Falls

*** Mychal Rydeen – Webster

Some of the new troopers were already certified law enforcement officers and have been working in the field on their own since this spring. The other recruits are just finishing their training and will receive their new Highway Patrol vehicles after Friday’s graduation.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
