3.2% of citizens in South Dakota unemployed in 2021

South Dakota's unemployment rate hit 3.2% among residents aged 16 and 65 years old in 2021. That's 14,841 people out of the 881,785 living in South Dakota at the time, according to data U.S. Census Bureau data obtained on Oct. 26, 2023.

The unemployment rate in South Dakota has decreased compared to the 3.5% registered in 2020.

The percentage of people unemployed in South Dakota was less than the national unemployment rate of 5.5%.

Of the 451,339 people who had a job during that time, 2,982 were employed in the Armed Forces and 448,357 belonged to the civilian labor force.
