The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), in partnership with the City of Brookings, is organizing a public meeting open house to discuss the development of a long-range transportation plan for the Brookings area. This event is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the Brookings City-County Government Center.

The Brookings Area Transportation Plan (BATP) involves collaboration among the City of Brookings, SDDOT, partnering agencies, and study stakeholders to address transportation needs for various modes including vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, and transit. The meeting aims to gather public input and suggestions on transportation issues relevant to this long-term study.

A recorded presentation will be available during the open house; however, there will not be a formal presentation. Representatives from SDDOT, the City of Brookings, and the study consultant will attend to discuss BATP matters with attendees. Those interested in local transportation are encouraged to participate and share their perspectives.

For individuals unable to attend or seeking further information about BATP, details can be found on the study website at https://brookingsatp.com/. Accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are available by contacting the SDDOT ADA Coordinator two business days before the meeting.

Written comments can be submitted at the public meeting or sent to HDR Inc., addressed to City of Brookings Area Transportation Plan (BATP), 101 S. Phillips Ave., Suite 401, Sioux Falls, SD 57104. Comments may also be shared via https://brookingsatp.com/ until March 5, 2025.

For additional information regarding BATP or the upcoming meeting, contact Katrina Burckhard at SDDOT via phone or email.

SDDOT's mission focuses on providing a safe and efficient public transportation system. More details about their work can be found at https://dot.sd.gov.
