The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) is seeking water quality data to complete its biennial assessment of the state's lakes and streams. This information will contribute to the 2026 Integrated Report, which evaluates the quality of South Dakota's waters.
DANR is requesting chemical, physical, and biological data, as well as beach closure details such as date, duration, and water quality results. The collected data will be accessible to the public via DANR’s Water Quality Monitoring Access Portal.
Organizations providing this data must follow an approved Quality Assurance Project Plan or comply with DANR’s quality control requirements. They are also required to submit documentation upon request. All electronic data submissions are due by September 2, 2025.
The Integrated Report is produced every two years and assesses the condition of South Dakota’s surface water resources. It identifies impaired waters that need a total maximum daily load (TMDL), which calculates permissible pollution levels while maintaining water quality standards. TMDLs guide local, state, and federal efforts to improve waterbody conditions.
The deadline for completing and submitting the 2026 Integrated Report to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is April 1, 2026.
