United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that Eddie Bromwich, a resident of Lower Brule, South Dakota, has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for assaulting, resisting, and impeding a federal officer. The sentencing was delivered by U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte on June 30, 2025.
Bromwich, aged 45, will also serve two years of supervised release following his prison term and is required to pay a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The incident leading to Bromwich's conviction occurred on February 6, 2024. Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement officers stopped him for speeding within the Lower Brule Sioux Indian Reservation. During the stop, Bromwich resisted commands and engaged in a physical altercation with the officers, resulting in one officer sustaining a broken finger.
A federal grand jury indicted Bromwich in March 2024. He was found guilty after a three-day jury trial held in April 2025.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Office of Justice Services at the Lower Brule Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kimberly Zachrison and Troy Morley handled the prosecution.
Following his sentencing, Bromwich was placed into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
