United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler has sentenced Francisco Jimenez-Grijalva, a Mexican national, for illegal reentry after deportation. The sentencing occurred on July 23, 2025.

Jimenez-Grijalva, aged 31, received a sentence of time served and was ordered to be removed from the United States. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2025 and pleaded guilty on June 6, 2025.

The individual had been deported from the United States to Mexico in 2015 but was found back in the country in May 2025 following an arrest for DUI in Pennington County. It was discovered that he had been deported three times previously. Reentering the United States after deportation is considered a felony.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). The operation involves collaboration between the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Schroeder prosecuting the case.

Jimenez-Grijalva has been remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
