United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that U.S. District Judge Eric C. Shulte sentenced Jerrod Fallis, a 47-year-old man from Harrold, South Dakota, to six months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Following his prison term, Fallis will undergo three years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Additionally, the court ordered the forfeiture of the firearm and silencer involved.
Fallis was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2024 and pleaded guilty on April 17, 2025. The charges stemmed from a traffic stop conducted on December 8, 2023, during which officers discovered a Rock River Arms AR15 rifle, silencer, and methamphetamine paraphernalia in Fallis's vehicle. Due to prior state felony drug convictions, Fallis is prohibited from possessing firearms.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that collaborates with various law enforcement levels and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence while making neighborhoods safer. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021, focusing on fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges prosecuted it.
Following sentencing, Fallis was remanded into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
