A ticket sold at Freedom Valu Center in Vermillion has won the estimated $4,010,000 Lotto America jackpot in Wednesday’s drawing, according to the South Dakota Lottery. This marks the state’s first multi-state jackpot winner since 2018 and is also the first time a South Dakota player has claimed a jackpot under Lotto America’s current format, which began in November 2017.
The winning numbers drawn were 26, 29, 30, 33, 40 and Star Ball 1. The retailer that sold the winning ticket will receive a $10,000 bonus.
“This is an exciting time for the South Dakota Lottery, our players and our retail partners,” said Lottery Executive Director Norm Lingle. “We want to congratulate our winner but also stress the importance of taking the proper steps to fully enjoy their jackpot dreams.”
The winner can choose between a one-time cash payment of $1,820,000 or receiving the prize through 30 graduated annuity payments over 29 years. Federal income taxes will be withheld from either option.
The lottery advises winners to sign their ticket immediately and consult with a financial adviser before claiming their prize. Winners have up to 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their winnings. Prizes can be claimed at any South Dakota Lottery redemption center. Additional information about claiming prizes is available on the lottery’s website at https://lottery.sd.gov/claim-your-prize/.
Revenue from lotto games like Lotto America contributes to public funds in South Dakota. Seventy percent of net revenue goes into the state’s General Fund supporting K-12 schools, state universities, and technical institutes. The remaining thirty percent supports projects such as water and environmental initiatives, ethanol fuel programs, and highway infrastructure through dedicated funds.
