A federal jury in Rapid City, South Dakota, acquitted Richard Wayne Gray of Gillette, Wyoming, on charges of transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and aggravated sexual abuse with children. The verdict was delivered on July 25, 2025.

Gray, age 41, had been indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2024. The indictment was related to allegations that he transported a minor across state lines for the purpose of engaging in a sexual act.

The case was investigated by both the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office in Wyoming. The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the matter.

United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced the acquittal.
