The South Dakota State Fair is offering several opportunities for attendees to save money during the event. Advanced purchase of daily gate admission tickets by Wednesday, August 27, will result in a 20 percent discount. These tickets can be used at scan-and-go lines at the gates and are available online at www.sdstatefair.com or at the State Fair Office in Huron.
Channel Seeds Opening Day will also feature advanced rate admissions. Additionally, purchasing grandstand tickets before Tuesday, August 26, includes gate admission. These can be bought online, by phone, or at the ticket office.
A special "Salute to Veterans" program will take place on Thursday, August 28, featuring Jeremiah Schneider from the SD Department of Veterans Affairs as the keynote speaker. Veterans and active military members receive free entry that day. 4-H youth can also enter for free with their 4-H card.
Coupons for $2 off gate admission on Friday, August 29, are available at Olympic Motors in Huron. On Monday, September 1, bringing a non-perishable item between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. will grant $2 off admission as part of the "Stock the Shelves" initiative.
"Pay It Forward Day" on September 1 allows businesses to sponsor passes for those in need, potentially giving fairgoers free entry.
Carnival rides offer savings too; all rides cost two dollars on Wednesday, August 27. A Weekly Passport to Fun pass provides access to rides throughout the fair's six days and is available for $52 at Olympic Motors. Big Jim 93.3 and Taco Johns offer a $3 coupon for ride bands on Thursday, Friday, and Monday.
