Alana Neville, a resident of Milesville, South Dakota, has been named one of 16 national finalists in the NASCAR Powerball Playoff. This selection gives her an opportunity to compete for a $1 million prize at the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race scheduled for November 2 at Phoenix Raceway.
“I was overwhelmed,” Alana said of learning the news. “I didn’t realize how many states did this and not every state has a finalist. I felt really honored to be chosen.”
Neville entered the contest through the South Dakota Lottery’s last chance social media promotion for the NASCAR Powerball Playoff. After being selected, she became one of ten participants from South Dakota who advanced to a national drawing that determined the 16 finalists.
The competition will continue over several months with elimination drawings designed to reflect the structure of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. The field will narrow from 16 contestants to 12, then eight, and finally four finalists.
The final four participants will receive trips to Phoenix and have a chance at winning $1 million in a final drawing. Contestants eliminated before that stage are guaranteed at least $2,500 for reaching the round of 16.
“I have thought about the trip, but I have to make it through three eliminations,” Alana said. “It gets me excited.”
Neville also shared her enthusiasm about attending a live NASCAR event, recalling memories of watching races with her parents and expressing interest in both classic drivers like Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt as well as current competitors.
“I really like the classics like Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt,” Alana said “My parents watched it, so I’m more familiar with them. I’m excited about possibly winning the trip, and it would be quite the adrenaline rush to go.”
The next phase of the competition will see the announcement of those advancing to the Round of 12 on September 13.
