U.S. Senator John Thune is accepting applications for fall internships in his Washington, D.C., office and his state offices located in Aberdeen, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls. The internship program is open to college students interested in learning more about the legislative process and gaining experience working in a congressional office.

Interns placed in the Washington, D.C., office will have opportunities to observe Senate votes and hearings as part of their duties. Those selected for state offices will be involved with constituent service and outreach activities across South Dakota. All positions are paid and offer hands-on experience in research, writing, and general office work.

“Interns who are selected will receive a firsthand look at the legislative process and the day-to-day life in a congressional office,” said Thune. “In Washington, interns will have the opportunity to attend Senate votes and hearings and participate in other activities that are unique to Capitol Hill. Students who are interested in interning in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, or Rapid City will find an equally rewarding experience with assisting staff on important constituent service requests and state outreach activities, which are critical to my work for the people of South Dakota. I encourage all college students who are interested in these opportunities to apply today.”

Applications must be submitted by July 20, 2025. Interested students can apply at https://sen.gov/NXVV1 or find more information under the “Services” tab at www.thune.senate.gov.

Senator Thune currently serves as Senate majority leader. He is also a member of several committees: Commerce, Science, and Transportation; Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; and Finance.
