U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) has formally invited former President Donald Trump to attend the upcoming Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. The invitation also includes an offer for Trump to join a concert at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip venue alongside its founder and CEO, Rod Woodruff.
“The Sturgis Buffalo Chip is among the most iconic venues in the nation, attracting tens of thousands of enthusiasts,” Rounds wrote in his invitation. “It is a must-see experience, glowing with American pride and the roar of American muscle in the background.”
Rounds expressed his support for Trump’s attendance at the event. “South Dakota is Trump Country,” said Rounds. “We’d love to introduce you on stage during one of our premier concerts, in front of tens of thousands of fans and we’re thoroughly convinced you’ll be impressed with the reception.”
If accepted, this visit would mark the first time a president has attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The last presidential visit to South Dakota was President Trump’s appearance at Mount Rushmore for a fireworks show in July 2020.
In his letter, Rounds described the rally as having started in 1938 and called it “the world’s largest motorcycle rally, attracting hundreds of thousands of patriots each year.” He highlighted that the Buffalo Chip has hosted artists such as Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, and Toby Keith.
Rounds noted that this year marks the rally’s 85th anniversary and mentioned next year’s 250th anniversary celebration for the United States as another significant milestone for future events.
“My friend, Rod Woodruff, founder and CEO of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, has been copied on this letter and is available to answer any questions you or your team might have and will be available to help with all logistics. We’d be happy to make that introduction when appropriate,” wrote Rounds.
He concluded by thanking Trump for his leadership: “Thank you for leading our great country, we’d love to honor you with an appreciation event like you’ve never seen.”
