A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to over two years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm. According to U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell, Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange handed down the sentence on September 22, 2025.
Dustin Douglas Wade Deverney Hubbeling, age 24, received a sentence of two years and two months in federal prison. After his release, he will serve three years of supervised release and must pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Hubbeling was indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2024 for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. He pleaded guilty to the charge on June 26, 2025.
Authorities reported that on December 5, 2024, officers from the Sioux Falls Police Department found Hubbeling with a pistol in the waistband of his pants during an encounter. Due to three previous felony convictions, Hubbeling was prohibited from possessing firearms.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Sioux Falls Police Department. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Joyce prosecuted the case.
Hubbeling was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service following sentencing.
