South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) is calling for the immediate resignation of the state's attorney general, Jason Ravnsborg, after he was involved in a fatal accident.
"Now that the investigation has closed, and charges have been filed, I believe the Attorney General should resign. I have reviewed the material we are releasing, starting today, and I encourage others to review it as well," Gov. Noem wrote on Twitter.
Noem's call for the attorney general’s resignation follows Ravnsborg's admission that he was browsing websites on his phone while driving when he struck and killed Joseph Boever, 55.
During a September 2020 interview following the accident, Ravnsborg maintained he put his phone down a minute before he struck Boever. Eventually, he changed the timeline of his Internet browsing story and was forced to admit using his phone to view a number of websites at the time of the accident when information from his phone records surfaced.
The governor said her call for the resignation of Ravnsborg followed a lengthy review of the investigation, KTIV Television reported.
Noem also said that she hasn’t spoken with Ravnsborg since the day of the accident.
